PROFILE OF DANIEL AWOMNAB

Daniel Awomnab is young Ghanaian development professional who has a spurring interest in public policy, climate change advocacy and youth development. He is a fellow of both the Africa Young Leaders Fellowship Program and the Young African Leaders Initiative. He is currently pursuing his Masters Studies in Political Analysis and Public Policy at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia. His research focus is on climate injustice, human mobility, environmental change, adaption, gender, livelihood resilience, renewable energy and rural development.

His passion to be substantially involved in the awareness creation on climate change led him to accept the voluntary challenge as Country Coordinator for Team 54 Project International in 2019. This role has offered him the platform to direct his climate awareness creation towards behavioral change mainly looking at how individuals can use personal strategies to get others to take climate action through international virtual conferences. In 2019, Daniel was awarded the Eco-Hero for the Month of May by Team 54 Project International in recognition of his dedication and hard work towards climate awareness creation and for his creative contribution towards the successful development of RepClime which is a real time weather reporting mobile application.

Given the importance of advancing climate change education, in July 2020 Daniel successfully launched the Ghana Climate Change Awareness Program (GCCAP) which aims at awakening the youth of Ghana to first think about the ongoing crisis, guiding them to obtain the right knowledge on the crisis and to take relevant climate action in their communities. Consequently, Daniel desires for the youth to synergize and evolve strategically with the climate regime to effectively to find new ways of working with local governments towards translating cheap and scalable climate adaption solutions into tangible benefits.

He is a Certified Climate Reality Leader trained by the former United States of America Vice President, Al Gore and voluntarily serves as a board member of the Somaliland Climate Action Initiative (SOCAI) which is in Eastern Africa. He has consulted for four different editions of Hult Prize a global social enterprise challenge aligned with environmental sustainability designed for the youth by the Hult Prize Foundation with support from United Nations and the Clinton Global Initiative. He also volunteers on the Ghana Tech Lab ecosystem mapping which is funded by the MasterCard Foundation and the World Bank with support from Ghana’s Ministry of Communications where he interacts and gathers data on public institutions while understanding the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Accra along the triple line of action.
